Press release about the 8th International CTI Symposium
Innovative Automotive Transmissions 30 November - 3 December 2009 in Berlin

Düsseldorf/Berlin, December 2009. “Improving the vehicle’s customer-relevant characteristics through automotive transmission systems is the guiding theme running through the research work of the four CTI Young Drive Experts Award winners,” announced Dr. Ferit Küçükay (Technical University Braunschweig) on the occasion of the first new talent award for transmission specialists at the 8th International CTI Symposium “Innovative Automotive Transmissions” (1 and 2 December 2009, in Berlin). Under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the new award, brought to life by the conference and seminar organiser CTI, hopes to encourage new talent to become involved with the interesting and important field of drive train and transmission technology. “The works honoured with the CTI Young Drive Experts Award clearly show that the next generation of engineers is aware of its responsibility to sustainable mobility, ensuring better protection of the environment. New talent is also searching for innovative solutions to balance resource conservation and comfort demands,” stressed jury member Dr. Heinz Ulbrich (Technical University Munich).

The winners of the CTI Young Drive Experts Award 2009
Sascha Neudörfer (Hanover University) and Murat Inalpolat (Ohio State University) were honoured with awards for their doctoral dissertations, while Artur Plötner and Marjam Eghtessad (both Technical University Braunschweig) were honoured for their degree theses. The works “Thermo-mechanical Influences on the Tribology of Synchronisations”, “Modelling of Modulation Sidebands for Planetary Gear Sets”, “Development of a Robot Driver for Conducting Test Cycles on a Chassis Dynamometer” and “Methodology Development for the Generation of Representative Test Settings for Conventional and Hybrid Drive Trains” were presented to some 650 participants at this year’s CTI symposium, in the context of the “Transmission Expo” trade exhibition. The winning works will be published from 7 December 2009 on the homepage http://www.getriebe-symposium.de/?pr.

An environment that turns ideas into action
“The resonance among students and participants of the renowned transmission symposium, along with the support of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, shows how important the exchange between research and practice – and also between the generations – is for the future of mobility,” said Sylvia Zenzinger at the awards ceremony. “In order to excel in international competition, the German automotive industry must provide safe, intelligent and environmentally friendly vehicles, which are also in line with customer preferences. In the future, we will also need a professional environment that continues to turn ideas into action and research results into innovative products, processes and services,” stressed the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology in his greeting at the CTI Young Drive Experts Award.

The conference organiser is already inviting young engineers to submit particularly innovative studies, doctoral dissertations or Bachelor’s and Master’s theses to the expert jury for next year. The works will be evaluated and honoured by an independent jury. This year’s jury included Dr. Albert Albers (Karlsruhe University), Dr. Ferit Küçükay (Technical University Braunschweig), Dr. Stefan Rinderknecht (Technical University Darmstadt), Dr. Peter Tenberge (Technical University Chemnitz) and Dr. Heinz Ulbrich (Technical University Munich).
